Top 5 Insurers – Spring 2022

Top 5 Insurers - Spring 2022

Welcome to Electric Road’s all-new ‘Top 5 Insurers’.

At Electric Road, our key objective is to be as useful as we possibly can be for those considering their first/next electric car and related products & services. Finding the right policy is naturally very important to all electric car owners.

Owner Ratings

Based on the hundreds of Owner Reviews we receive each month, we have extracted the top 5 highest-rated insurers based on our new owner ratings system. From January 1st onwards, all owners have to provide a bolt rating out of 5 on their current insurer within their review. We’ve then worked out the average rating for each insurance company as indicated below with the Top 5.

We hope this summary of EV owners’ opinions will help you make the right decision when the time comes to purchase your next policy/policies. The Top 5 Insurers will be updated each quarter ensuring you have the latest trends from the Electric Road audience.

  • Recovery to the nearest charge point if you run out of charge in the UK. LV also has a fleet of vehicles they use in partnership with AFF, the national roadside electric vehicle charging assistance company, which can recharge your vehicle and get you on the road again. This won’t affect your NCD and there’s no excess to pay.
  • Cover for charging cables, wall boxes and adaptors for accidental damage, fire and theft
  • Battery cover for accidental damage, fire and theft, even if you’re leasing it separately from the car
  • Over the air monthly updates (OTA) are covered as standard when you insure your electric vehicle with LV, but if you or the previous owner paid for additional performance upgrades affecting speed or acceleration, LV will need to know
  • Plus, you’ll enjoy lifetime guarantee on repairs (when using LV’s recommended repairer service, for as long as you own the vehicle. Labour only, excludes parts)
  • The use of an electric or hybrid hire car.

If you run out of charge, the RAC will take you and your vehicle to the closet charge point as part of the optional breakdown cover esure offer to enhance your cover.
  • Car Hire Cover –  If your car is stolen and not recovered or esure agree with you that it is a total loss, you will get a similar type and sized hire car by the end of the next working day for up to 21 days whilst we sort out your claim.
