BYD Seal Design 2026 Owner Review

BYD Seal Design 2026 Owner Review

Sid Daniels drives a BYD Seal Design 82.5kWh, standard specification.

This is Sid’s second electric car, he’s owned the BYD Seal less than a year and drives 20,000-30,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and he achieves 300 miles range from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose this car?

I loved the design and the range. Also, the price/value for money impressed me.

Positives

It’s great to drive and the tech is impressive.

Negatives

Sometimes when updates to the car are performed, it makes things worse and the customer service is not great. I also find getting insurance challenging.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes, the battery charging is great and the range is great.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

The brakes make a noise (squeal) but I just ignore it. I contacted the local garage and they seemed not to be to interested…

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The infotainment system is great, but the ADAS system can be challenging.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your BYD Seal

The glass roof is outstanding and the mobile phone app is brilliant.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

People always complain about public charging but I have never had a problem, apart from the cost, which is just too expensive.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

I will probably get another Chinese EV, as they are great value for money.

Home charging unit

myenergi zappi 2 – it is great and I have had no issues. It was installed by Octopus Energy and they where great.

Electricity supplier & tariff

Intelligent Octopus Go

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

I use MER which are now Be.EV and InstaVolt. InstaVolt always work and always have availability, probably because they are the most expensive. I don’t charge very often.

Insurance

Aviva

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a BYD Seal

The cost for 1,000 miles a month is about £25.
