Top 5 Electric cars - Spring 2022

Welcome to Electric Road’s all-new ‘Top 5 Electric cars’.

At Electric Road, our key objective is to be as useful as we possibly can be for those considering their first/next electric car and related products & services. Finding the right electric car is clearly the most important part of the process! In an ever-growing market there are many considerations (budget-aside) such as should you buy new or used and how you are actually going to use the car.

Owner Ratings

Based on the hundreds of Owner Reviews we receive each month, we have extracted the top 5 highest-rated electric cars based on our new owner ratings system. From January 1st onwards, all owners have to provide a bolt rating out of 5 on their current electric car within their review. We’ve then worked out the average rating for each car as indicated below with the Top 5.

We hope this summary of EV owners’ opinions will help you make the right decision when the time comes to purchase your first or next electric car. The Top 5 Electric cars will be updated each quarter ensuring you have the latest trends from the Electric Road audience.

Here’s what some of our Mustang Mach-E owners say:

‘I love Ford and I knew they’d do it properly.’

‘The Ford Mustang Mach-E car had pretty much everything we needed and was really impressive on the test drive. Having had a ‘luxury’ brand we didn’t want to compromise on the spec and this car didn’t disappoint. We also needed a car with decent range and knew we wouldn’t get as much as the advertised range over winter so we’d planned for that. The stereo system is great, the back is nice and spacious for the growing kids and has a decent boot size too.’

‘It’s my second Mustang Mach-E and 12th EV. Best by far and I’ve owned most.’

Here’s what some of our ENYAQ owners say:

‘Best inner space, good range and performance and best value for money by far!’

ENYAQ iV 60 2022, Boyd Hope. Read the full Owner Review here

‘Build quality, price, looks, safety features, 13 inch screen for most things but with handy piano style keys for things like climate control. Comfort, pretty nippy for the size, it’s a large SUV. Has all the Skoda smart things such as a brolly in the door, clip for tickets and permits, ice scraper in boot lid although that’s not really needed as you can clear the windows and heat the car from the app before you get in the car.’

ENYAQ iV 60 2021, Popeye. Read the full Owner Review here

‘Long-range, not as expensive as a Tesla and there is room for the dog in the boot. I regularly travel 185 miles on the motorway so needed a car that could do the whole journey in one go if necessary.’

(as published on Nissan’s YouTube channel, April 2022)

Here’s what some of our LEAF owners say:

‘Went for a test drive and found the seats to be very comfy, no back ache & very easy to drive.  Good spec like cruise control, 360 cameras front and rear, parking sensors, auto white auto lights, also found that the boot was bigger than a Golf I used to have.’

LEAF Tekna 40kWh 2020, Stephen Wong. Read the full Owner Review here

‘It’s absolutely brilliant, the best car I’ve ever owned! It’s so cheap to run – around 1,000 miles for under £20 and my passengers all love it as it’s so smooth and quiet. I love it because I spend so much time in my car waiting for passengers at their appointments and this time of year being able to preheat it (no scraping windows) and have heated seats and steering wheel is such a bonus!’

LEAF Tekna 40kWh 2019, Linda Christie. Read the full Owner Review here

‘I wanted to lead by example, as I knew the move to EVs was absolutely the right thing. Plus, after a test drive I was blown away by the driving experience. I chose a LEAF because at the time (early 2014), it was the only truly affordable high quality EV on the market and also had a high level of equipment on it (including a heat pump which was very important to me).’

About the Renault Zoe (by Renault themselves)

(as published on Renault’s YouTube channel, April 2022)

Here’s what some of our Zoe owners say:

‘My wife and I both have GT Line Zoes. We picked them after looking at the cheapest to run versus the cheapest to lease versus best range. We both had new ICE cars before and actually replaced both of them within 2 months of getting the first Zoe. I don’t think we would’ve gone down the EV route if we hadn’t been able to charge at home and on Octopus Go. The savings for us so far have been substantial. We live in Aberdeen and I work in the Cairngorms and the range at this time of year hasn’t been too bad, lowest I’ve had has been around 180 miles at – 10 c.’

ZE50 GT Line 2021, Giles. Read the full Owner Review here

‘I’ve had a lot of Renault cars over the years including a Twizy, the dealership send me special offers, I took a test drive and fell in love with the feel of the car.’

Zoe 2016, Simon Upton-Millard. Read the full Owner Review here

‘Value for the specification and useful real range.’
