Top 5 Insurers – Winter 2022

Top 5 Insurers - Winter 2022

Welcome to Electric Road’s ‘Top 5 Insurers’ Winter 2022.

At Electric Road, our key objective is to be as useful as we possibly can be for those considering their first/next electric car and related products & services. Finding the right insurance policy is naturally very important to all electric car owners.

Owner Ratings

Based on the 5-bolt rating system from over 2,800 Top 5 EV Surveys received up to and including 31st December, Electric Road has extracted the top 5 highest-rated insurers. Within the review forms, all owners have to provide a bolt rating out of 5 on their current insurer. We’ve then worked out the average rating for each company as shown below. As you’ll see, it’s a competitive marketplace with 3 companies tied for 3rd place!

We hope this summary of EV owners’ opinions will help you make the right decision when the time comes to consider your next insurance policy. The ‘Top 5 Insurers’ will be updated each quarter ensuring you have the latest owner feedback from Electric Road.

4. Saga (4.53)

About Saga

What does Saga’s electric car insurance cover?

Saga Plus, Saga Select and Saga Standard all cover you for:

  • NEW Battery recharge – If your electric car is immobile because it’s run out of charge while you’re driving in the UK and you don’t have any valid breakdown cover, we’ll send the RAC. They’ll give your car a boost so you can get to the nearest electric vehicle charge point. Or they can arrange for you, your passengers and your car to be taken to the nearest electric vehicle charge point, or to your home, whichever is closer.

  • Battery cover – We’ll replace your battery if it’s damaged as a result of an accident or fire

  • Charging equipment – We’ll repair or replace your professionally installed charging points, charging cables and any adapters if they’re damaged by fire, theft or accidental damage.

  • Liability – We’ll cover any claim against you if someone trips over your charging cable and injures themselves

  • Over the air updates (OTA) – All manufacturer approved software updates and settings installed wirelessly such as functionality, performance and safety updates are covered as standard

  • New for old cover – If you’ve owned your electric car from new, and it’s up to a year old, we’ll replace it with a brand new one if it’s written off. And it’s even better with Saga Plus and Saga Select, because vehicles between one and two years old are also covered up to 12,000 miles.
