KIA Niro EV 2022 electric car owner review

Mike A drives a KIA Niro EV 65kWh 2022.

This is Mike’s second electric car, he’s owned the KIA Niro EV less than a year and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 270 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the KIA Niro EV?

The range and price suited my requirements. I wanted the range to be 250+ and the KIA was my ‘best buy’.

Contrary to the popular/tabloid press reports, the range of the car is OK in cold weather and actually exceeds the stated 282 miles in the summer months.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

For the foreseeable future, KIA is my choice, the best engineered EV for its price.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

Pod Point 7.5kWh untethered. Charged on cheap midnight-5am rate. No problems so far.

Electricity supplier 7 tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

12.4p per kWh at night rate. Supplier is EDF but actual day-to-day charging costs are not easy to untangle.

Do you use public charging networks?

No

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

Tesco gave me a 15% discount as I am a Clubcard user.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a KIA Niro EV

(1) no road tax

(2) no petrol or diesel costs

(3) no London charges

As a retired person, my travel is irregular, so can’t really estimate savings.
