Hyundai IONIQ 6 2023 electric car owner review

Steve drives a Hyundai IONIQ 6 AWD Ultimate 2023.

This is Steve’s fourth electric car, he’s owned the Hyundai IONIQ 6 from new and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 240 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Hyundai IONIQ 6?

After having a IONIQ 5 for a couple of years I wanted something equally different. I know the look is considered polarising but I find it a very striking car, very comfortably to drive and well-equipped. Although I did miss having a sunroof believe it or not! I went for the AWD this time as I thought it may be a bit more fun and it certainly is, it feels well-planted on the road and plenty fast enough!

Positives

  • The look
  • performance
  • colour.

Negatives

  • Too many warnings
  • slightly less useful boot
  • restricted headroom in the back on the rare occasion I have a third adult in the car.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Difficult to say as it got colder after I bought the car and I’m still waiting for spring.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No faults as yet.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Increased range on the IONIQ 5 I had previously.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

Though the frunk is small it can still hold a charging lead and all the bits and bobs you might need.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

Liable to burst into flames at the drop of a hat.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

New Polestars look good.

Home charging unit

Ohme – linked to Octopus makes it much cheaper.

Electricity supplier & tariff

Just the limitation of (regular) cheap power hours if you need a big charge.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

GRIDSERVE – plenty of them on the motorway but expensive.

Insurer

Saga – reasonable price and you can fix the price for 3 years.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Hyundai IONIQ 6

Spending less on petrol, saving about £75 a month.
