KGM Korando e-motion 2023 electric car owner review

KGM Korando e-motion 2023 electric car owner review

Gary drives a KGM Korando e-motion 61.5kWh 2023.

This is Gary’s first electric car, he’s owned the Korando e-motion from new and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 206 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose this KGM Korando e-motion?

I previously owned a ICE version of the same car and loved the driving, style and features of it but one big draw back was a very bad mpg. Brought this EV as I liked the size, features and space for a great price of £30,995. Had great reviews and a reasonable range too.

Positives

  • Great value for money
  • plenty of space in front and rear
  • high trim level and all the driver assist tech
  • love the style and size as a medium SUV
  • effortless to drive and economical.

Negatives

  • No pre-cabin heating
  • no app to monitor charging.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

I’ve been getting consistently 156 miles on an 80% charge. This is during the winter months of Nov-Feb but I haven’t had the car in warmer weather yet.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Not experienced any faults.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Intelligent cruise control which keeps a distance from the car in front and centre lane
  • integrated TomTom sat nav including battery charge
  • rear view camera and rear & front parking sensors.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

I normally get one of two responses when I tell people I have this car. Either ‘I have never heard of that’ or ‘what the hell did you buy that for?’ KGM should not be overlooked as a credible EV choice. They are well-built and good value. After all, Škoda were mocked back in days gone by.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That EVs will make bridges & multi-storey car parks collapse.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

I would go for the same car again in an instant unless I won the lottery and then I would go for a KIA EV9.

Home charging unit

Ohme e pod – works well if you don’t schedule and use the charge app. Very temperamental though if you try to set a schedule using the charge app.

Electricity supplier & tariff

OVO Charge Anytime tariff – I get 7p per kWh any time of day or night.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

  • InstaVolt – straight-forward and not had a problem (my preferred charger)
  • GRIDSERVE – used a few times with no issues
  • bp pulse & Pod Point – had a few issues.

Insurer

Admiral – for an EV they provide free cover for charging cables, home charger and free recovery if you run out of charge.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a KGM Korando e-motion

  • Spend about £10 charging a month saving £120
  • spend £9 per month on service plan saving £180
  • road tax £0 saving £180 per year
  • Total monthly savings approx. £145 a month.
