Hyundai IONIQ 5 2021 electric car owner review

‘King Charles’ (!) drives a Hyundai IONIQ 5 58kWh 2021.

This is KC’s first electric car, he’s owned the Hyundai IONIQ 5 2-3 years and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 200 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Hyundai IONIQ 5

Had Hyundai cars before and I like the brand. I chose the smaller battery as the larger one wasn’t required for my use.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Quiet
  • reliable
  • relatively cheap to run.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Too big
  • no battery conditioning
  • too expensive.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Not really noticed any difference.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Few noise complaints which have been rectified but the build quality is not what I’ve come to expect from Hyundai. Also, Type 2 cable failed and was replaced.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Highway driving assist is quite useful. Everything is expected from a modern car these days.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

Nothing really.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That you need a drive and home charger, blatantly untrue. Whilst it does cost me more it’s still cheaper than an ICE. Public charging whilst overpriced is reliable if you avoid bp pulse & GeniePoint.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Something smaller. Hate that most EVs are SUVs. Having such large vehicles is a waste of resources and creates unnecessary congestion.

Do you charge your electric car from home?

No

Do you use public charging networks?

Yes

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

  • Osprey, Mer, Pod Point, Believ & GRIDSERVE are good
  • InstaVolt are good but overpriced so I avoid them
  • Never use bp pulse or GeniePoint because they rarely work. I actually filter these two networks from searches.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Hyundai IONIQ 5

Don’t really care enough to think about this. However, I spend less on electricity than I used to on diesel.
