Tesla Model Y 2023 electric car owner review

Tesla Model Y 2023 electric car owner review

John F drives a Tesla Model Y LR 75kWh 2023.

This is John’s third electric car, he’s owned the Model Y from new and drives 15,000-20,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 310 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Tesla Model Y?

I’m on my third Tesla, they simply do the whole package better, the vehicle, the tech & the charging network.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Faster than my old Maserati at a fraction of the price
  • quiet even at motorway speeds
  • comfortable – we have driven to several countries in Europe without drama.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Nothing!

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes and the previous two Teslas also did.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The software, OTA updates are constantly improving and adding new features.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The fun aspect of some of the ‘toybox’ features.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That you can’t drive in the rain! Trust me, this is our third Tesla and we live near the Lake District, plenty of rain here and no problems at all. Even ICE vehicles get stranded when their exhausts go under water.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Staying with Tesla until the competition beats them, if ever.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

Pod Point Solo with a tethered cable – we find it works well, no problems so far after three and a half years.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Octopus Intelligent Go – fabulous for overnight off-peak charging. When scheduled by the car through the Octopus app ‘intelligent’ scheduling sometimes isn’t!

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

  • Tesla Superchargers – by far the most reliable and relatively low cost
  • InstaVolt – also fairly reliable and reasonable cost
  • The rest – dire by comparison, reliability awful, cost horrendous & availability slim.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model Y

Fuel – previously drove a Maserati Ghibli, monthly fuel cost was around £250- £300, service/maintenance cost £1,500 per year & road tax was approx. £350 per year.

My Tesla costs around £40 per month in fuel and pretty much pennies for servicing/maintenance (only screen wash, wiper blades and tyres required.
