Hyundai IONIQ 2020 – Owner Spotlight: Lisa

Hyundai IONIQ 2020 - Owner Spotlight: Lisa

Lisa (@ioniqlisa) currently runs a Hyundai IONIQ 38kWh 2020.

Lisa has owned the IONIQ for nearly 2 years and it’s her first electric car. Lisa does approximately 5,000 miles per year and the car has done 9,700 miles so far.

What was the last ICE car you owned?

Mercedes C220 Coupé 2016

What got you into an EV in the first place?

I nearly went for a hybrid Lexus in 2014 when my daily commute was about 50 miles. When I was looking to replace my Mercedes in 2019 there was an amazing deal on the IONIQ.

Initially, what did you find most confusing about EV ownership and how did you solve that?

Learning about public charging. I did lots of research and watched lots of EV videos on YouTube.

What sources of information helped you e.g. people, groups, websites etc?

Fully Charged, Maddie Goes Electric & Bjorn Nyland (TeslaBjorn).

What events would you recommend attending to learn more about EVs?

I haven’t been to any events really!

What needs to happen to get more people driving an EV?

  • More people need to try one and not be afraid of change
  • The charging infrastructure needs to be more user friendly, more visible and more reliable. Obviously there needs to be more chargers too.
  • The media need to cover more positives.

Who is your EV hero/guru and why?

I wouldn’t say I have a hero but I do think that Robert Llewellyn has done a lot.

What are your top 3 pieces of advice for those people considering their first EV?

  • Do your research and learn about how they work, charging etc
  • Don’t believe the FUD
  • Learn to drive it differently to an ICE car. Maybe try before you buy (e.g. test drive/rent if unsure).
