Mike C drives a Polestar 2 2021 electric car.
This is Mike’s first electric car, he’s owned the Polestar 2 between 1-2 years and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and he achieves 220 miles range from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Polestar 2?
I was lucky enough to get my car through a salary sacrifice scheme at my workplace. I was thinking of getting a Tesla Model 3 but the Polestar worked out cheaper. I watched several reviews by EV YouTubers who all praised the Polestar, several said it was equal to or better than the Tesla Model 3. I think it’s one of the best looking EVs out there and I don’t regret choosing it for a moment.
Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car.
- The ‘muscle car’ looks
- The build quality
- The ease of driving
- The regen braking.
Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car.
- The ride is a bit firm especially as my city has a lot of potholes and speed bumps. On motorways or smooth country roads however it is sublime!
- Lack of Apple CarPlay, although it is in the pipeline
- There were software glitches initially but they seem to have disappeared now.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
As stated previously, I had major issues with the first OTA software update. I was locked out of the car so couldn’t drive it. I rang the support team who explained how to manually override the system, enter the car and drive it to my local Volvo dealer, it was off the road for 48 hours. There have been a few small software glitches in the months following but nothing in the past 6 months.
What are the standout tech features of your Polestar 2?
Everything is voice controlled via Google, although I’m old school and don’t use it as much as I should.
Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this Polestar 2.
You can watch YouTube or iPlayer, although not when driving, Lol!
What electric car are you interested in next and why?
Something compact, I was looking at the ORA Cat last week, very nice. I’m retiring in 2 years so will not have the option of salary sacrifice and won’t be able to afford a Polestar or Tesla, so will probably be looking for a smaller, cheaper EV and the Chinese manufacturers seem to fit the bill. I would never go back to a fossil fuel car again.
What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I don’t have a home charger as I don’t have off-road parking. I’ve relied on public chargers, which is fine but not as cheap or convenient as home charging. I have seen however a solution to the cable trailing over the pavement issue and hopefully will get a home charger soon.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I currently use Bulb but when I install a home charger I’ll probably change to Octopus.

InstaVolt are always reliable but Osprey and Gridserve are also.

Gridserve.
Who do you insure your electric car with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Insurance is included in the salary sacrifice payment so I don’t know the company.
