Anonymous drives a KIA Niro EV 64kWh 2022.
This is Anonymous’s first electric car, they’ve owned the KIA Niro EV 2-3 years and drive 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 20,000-30,000 miles and they achieve 250 miles from a full charge.
Why did you choose the KIA Niro EV?
Fitted my family/driver’s needs.
Positives
- Good range
- memory seats
- interior space.
Negatives
- Slow charging
- false roof rails
- noisy on motorway.
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
Yes to both
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
Yes, car locked out after preheating (in Zombie mode) but now fixed.
What are the standout technological features of the car?
- Range of battery recuperation modes
- HUD
- heated seats
- memory seats
- V2L.
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your KIA Niro EV
Preheating/cooling in the morning – no more scraping ice off in the winter and in the summer the car is always cool to get into.
What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?
Battery life
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
Ordered a Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S Tourer – more range and faster charging.
Home charging unit
Evec VEC01 – it’s cheap and a good size but LED lights are too bright (covered with black tape) and it doesn’t work with Octopus (but car does).
Electricity supplier & tariff
With Intelligent Octopus Go – cheap for EV charging, good app, API is a little flaky but more to do with the car.
What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
Tesla is the cheapest, the rest are too expensive. If no Tesla, I gravitate to big suppliers like IONITY.
Insurance
Tesco – easy, straightforward and the price is fair.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running your KIA Niro EV
2p (£200/y) a mile over 16p (£1,600/y) for petrol; tax has been cheap for last few years.
