Volkswagen ID.5 2023 electric car owner review

Volkswagen ID.5 2023 electric car owner review

Kuby drives a Volkswagen ID.5 77kWh 2023.

This is Kuby’s first electric car, he’s owned the Volkswagen ID.5 from new and drives 15,000-20,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and he achieves 290 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Volkswagen ID.5?

The range, style, size, comfort & handling.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Range
  • size
  • comfort.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Infotainment screen can unexpectedly shutdown.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Too early to tell as the car has not experienced all the seasons.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Both the infotainment and the column screens have shutdown and have not turned off when the car has been locked. I was able to rectify the issue myself in 15 seconds. The dealership said it would take 2 days…

What are the standout technological features of the car?

In comparison to other EVs I don’t see any standout features, it’s just a solid car.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

I guess the comfort and space are its best features.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

To be honest I’ve ignored them.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

I’ve not thought about it. I’m still in my first year driving the ID.5.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

I have two home chargers, an Ohme Home Pro and a Tesla Wall Connector. The Ohme sometimes doesn’t charge to the desired level whilst the Tesla never fails. The Tesla is also much faster than the Ohme and has no issues connecting with the ID.5 charging software.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Intelligent Octopus – 7.5p per kWh 11.30pm to 5.00am. Plenty of time to charge my car. The only ongoing issue is that Octopus and Ohme still have problems with connectivity.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

I tend to use charging stations at motorway service stations. I find them cheaper and the bays more accessible.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Volkswagen ID.5

I estimate I save £250 per month solely on energy costs. As my car is a Motability vehicle I don’t pay insurance nor service costs.
