Top 5 INSIGHTS, Spring 2023

Welcome to the first ‘Top 5 INSIGHTS’ in association with Xcite Car Leasing.

At Electric Road, our key objective is to be as useful as we possibly can be for those considering their first or next electric car. Finding the right electric car is clearly the most important part of the process!

Owner Ratings

Within the Top 5 EV Survey, owners have to provide an overall bolt rating out of 5 on their car. It is this average score that decides where an EV will place in their respective size category for the quarterly Top 5s. Also within the Top 5 EV Survey we ask owners to rate (out of 5 electricity bolts) the following:

  • Exterior of car (design, styling etc)
  • Interior of car (practicality, storage, comfort etc)
  • Battery quality
  • Tech features
  • Overall reliability
  • Manufacturer’s app

So we thought it useful to publish the first set of results for some of these additional categories based on data received up to and including 31st March 2023. Clearly, it’s not a deep-dive into each area but given the volume of Top 5 EV Surveys we have received (4,000+), it provides a reasonable indication of which EVs are highly rated per category.

It won’t be a surprise to many that Tesla feature prominently in the top 5 for tech features. Here’s what some of our Model Y owners have to say:

‘The screen is super intuitive to use. If you really don’t want to navigate through the touchscreen whilst driving, you can control most features by pressing the right side wheel on the steering wheel and using voice commands instead. They are pretty accurate too.’

‘There are entertaining and fun apps built into the car but these are only occasionally useful. However, the Tesla app is something we use everyday to:

  • check the current state of charge/range
  • see where the car is (so I can have dinner ready for when my wife gets home)
  • so we can warm/cool the car remotely
  • lock it/open it even if we are half a world away
  • book at service appointment
  • and review our ‘fuel’ use – 297kWh last month, at a cost of less than £40. That gave us about 1,200 miles; about 3p per mile). It’s brilliant!’
