Tesla Model 3 2022 electric car owner review

Rose drives a Tesla Model 3 60kWh 2022.

This is Rose’s first electric car, she’s owned the Tesla Model 3 less than a year and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and she achieves 250 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Tesla Model 3?

I have wanted a Tesla since they first appeared and knew that it would probably never happen because of the price. When I heard about the Model 3 I thought there might be a chance but I wasn’t sure about the styling. I was at the time following the fortunes of SpaceX and I suppose their success just made me want a Tesla more; though at the time I was thinking of a second-hand S.

Then I had the chance to properly look at a Model 3 and I really liked the simplicity of it. I was driving what had always been my dream car, an old style Range Rover Sport, so a Tesla was quite different! Anyway, my employer then announced they were starting a salary sacrifice scheme, the Rangie was getting near 100,000 miles and diesel was a ridiculous price so I went for it and ordered my Model 3!

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • The cockpit – feels like you are in a spaceship!
  • the acceleration and handling – even in my RWD it is stunning
  • the smoothness of the drive
  • the sound system
  • the camaraderie amongst owners
  • the Supercharger network
  • the whole Tesla concept.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Ummmm…the auto wipers could be better?

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

I had the old style boot strut and this was replaced in a week of it being faulty by a chap in a Model S coming to my home. Perfect service from start to finish, all done via the app.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The cockpit is amazing – I love the way the voice command works and learns your accent or at least it seems to! The sound system is stunning as are its controls. The wi-fi updates are brilliant. The Superchargers are so simple to use that on a long journey I wouldn’t use anything else. Lastly, the ability to use a granny charger and not have to get anything else.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The sub-trunk is huge. The lack of transmission tunnel (I know a few cobbled together EVs still have these), Camp mode – the ability to sleep comfortably in the car with a purposefully designed bed and a car that keeps the temperature just how you like it. I cannot not mention the ability to make fart noises from the app (and talk to people), it has provided me and my mate who also has a Model 3 immense amusement. Childish I know but what a laugh!

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Cybertruck when my salary sacrifice ends. Looks amazing. That’s it!

Do you charge your electric car from home?

Yes

Do you have a home charging unit installed?

No

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

I use OVO and on the granny charger –  I see a difference of 10p extra if I charge overnight but with the huge range I charge mostly free at work.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Only ever used Tesla Superchargers. No messing about with cards etc. Just plug in and go.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model 3

Monthly lease is £550, cost day-to-day is zero (includes free insurance, tyres, wipers, service, etc.) I charge for free at work, rarely use home for 10p a time, when doing long journeys use a supercharger, costs about £20 for 200 miles.
