Tesla Model Y 2022 electric car owner review

Carl Boland drives a Tesla Model Y Long Range 2022 electric car.

This is Carl’s first electric car, he has owned the Tesla Model Y from new and drives between 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 275 miles range from a full charge.

Why did you choose this electric car?

As someone who trains motor industry sales execs on EVs, I was actually opposed to Tesla due to previous thoughts and experiences around quality. A friend of mine had a Model 3 which is built in China (as the Y is) and he had no concerns. I was offered a deal that was very hard to refuse and a short drive in a Model 3 sold it (as I knew the Y would provide me the additional space I required for the family).

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car.

  • The tech
  • The driving characteristics
  • …and the fact it keeps my family happy!

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car.

  • There are some shortfalls in quality
  • I don’t like the way the boot closes
  • The passenger seat belt rattles when no one’s in it.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No

What are the standout tech features of the car?

  • The user interface is exemplar, so intuitive, so fast and just simple
  • The audio system is unreal, so much depth and personalisation
  • The app and Bluetooth key are also great, always work and pre-conditioning the cabin is always a win!

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car.

The light show, boom box, emissions test and I think the fact it’s a quality car is the biggest thing people wouldn’t readily know.

What electric car are you interested in next and why?

At the moment it’s hard to see past another Tesla.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?

Hypervolt in black. Looks great and has a superb companion app.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?

E.ON – I actually dozed my tariff recently at 31p per kWh. I know it’s higher than the variable but as I work from home and have a family who are in and out all day an off-peak doesn’t work for me. I would not recommend anyone at the moment as people’s circumstances are so variable. I’m happy though!

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Always quite liked InstaVolt and of course, Tesla. InstaVolt seems fast and reliable and Tesla is, I think, what all charging networks want to be!

List your top 3 favourite public charging networks (in order of preference).

  1. Tesla
  2. InstaVolt
  3. IONITY.

Who do you insure your electric car with? Would you recommend them to others and why?

Admiral – yes, I’d recommend them. They were quick and easy to deal with and also not badly priced.
