MG ZS EV 2022 electric car owner review

MG ZS EV 2022 electric car owner review

Steven drives an MG ZS EV 130kW 51kWh 2022.

This is Steven’s first electric car, he’s owned the MG ZS EV from new and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 140 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the MG ZS EV?

I was looking for an SUV/automatic for mobility & medical purposes. I couldn’t get the diesel model I wanted so decided that it was time to go electric as the car had everything I needed and wanted.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Noise level
  • the look of it
  • the features inside the car…infotainment, safety etc.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Wish I’d gone for a car with a longer range
  • range drop in winter.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Rear windscreen washer burst (under the bonnet) in the winter. It was fixed at a cost to me. I wasn’t impressed with the aftercare service from MG/Arnold Clark. I had to e-mail their head office to complain and get a refund. It was only £69 but it was the principle, not even a year old and at the price of the car nothing should break and not be covered by the warranty. Dreaded HV battery warning four weeks into EV ownership, thankfully it was resolved and has never happened again.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Safety features.
  • wireless mobile charger
  • infotainment system.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

Sunroof is excellent & the rear seat passengers, in particular, really like it.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

MG4 EV

Do you charge your electric car from home?

No

Do you use public charging networks?

Yes

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

I’m fortunate enough to live in a region where chargers are still free to charge (until 1st April 2023). ChargePlace Scotland. Occasionally I’ve had to travel and try several locations to get a charger that’s vacant but I’m sure that will improve as of next week.

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

No real difference from previous ICE cars.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running an MG ZS EV

I’ve saved around £1,600 since I’ve been able to charge for free versus my previous diesel car. The energy costs should be about the same once I start paying for charging myself. Insurance is the same. Servicing is the same as an ICE new car would’ve been. Tax is £250 a year cheaper for now and I have saved around £140 a month in the first year.
