Renault Zoe 2021 electric car owner review

Renault Zoe 2021 electric car owner review

lozlis drives a Renault Zoe ZE50 R135 GT Line 52kWh 2021.

This is lozlis’s third electric car and he drives under 5,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 200 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Renault Zoe?

I’ve had a Zoe since 2016 and we like the car. It’s about the right size for our second car and the dealership is good and local. But my wife enjoys driving it which is the key factor.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • It’s quite simple to use, not too much technology
  • has good range
  • can charge at home
  • it drives well and is very reliable.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • I would prefer single pedal driving
  • somewhere better to keep the charging cable.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No faults so far.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

I like the simplicity of it and you can just get in and drive it without any setup issues. The big screen is easy to navigate the menus. Charging via the app is also good. Just a well thought out car.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

Love the automatic main beam headlight system, works well. The wireless charging pad also charges my Pixel 6 phone without any issues.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

As the Zoe is coming to an end my wife likes the look of the FIAT 500e. I would like a Tesla Model Y but it’s expensive. The Megane-E-Tech would have been my choice if the specification was the same as the European version but the lack of electric seats, heat pump and large screen means it won’t be for me.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

We have a very simple Polar charger installed in our garage, free in 2016. Has no intelligence as such but has never had an issue. The Zoe’s aircon system is noisy when charging but when in the garage it’s OK.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Octopus Go with a night-time tariff rate of 8.25p/kWh, just about perfect for us. Charge 2 or 3 times a week.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Pod Point are the only regular chargers we use, either at railway station car parks, Tesco or Lidl. They are now quite expensive, up to 50p/kWh. Some of the old railway units are not very good with the Zoe but we have come to learn where the good ones are.

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

Aviva have been very good but expensive and we have a fairly comprehensive business policy as the car is owned by my company.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Renault Zoe

We save money as it’s a company car but as we only use it for lots of short journeys, it’s quite economical compared to our diesel cars in the past.
