Why did you choose this car?
Back in 2016, there were not many EVs about and the deal I got on the Zoe was not to be missed. I’ve had a lot of Renault cars over the years including a Twizy, the dealership send me special offers, I took a test drive and fell in love with the feel of the car.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car.

  • Personality
  • Never let me down
  • Cheap to run.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.

  • Build quality
  • Renault dealerships lottery
  • Renault’s App.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
Had a few:

  • a new DC-DC converter at 3 years
  • a few AC leaks
  • a telematics unit in 2019
  • Ralink in 2021 & 2022 (think it was a dealership issue)
  • few bits of suspension work
  • …all covered under the warranty.

What are the standout tech features of the car?
None really, Zoe has a heat pump heating system that’s uncommon. Basically, Zoe is just a nice simple EV and the new version has a lot more toys than mine.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this car.
We are a family of 5 and this was our main car until November and all 5 of us fitted in fine. 2 of my 3 children are special needs and will not travel in a car with an ICE engine due to their autism.

Rate your EV out of 5.

What car are you interested in next and why?
We had a MG5 in November through Motability as with 5 of us (2 special needs) in Zoe going on multi-day trips was difficult to fit everything in the car. However, the Zoe is still used by me on most days.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
2 x  BP Chargemaster units, installed in 2016 and 2021. I do not recommend them as there are now better options available. My units have no working charge scheduling ability and the car draws 1-2kWph when outside the schedule.

Rate your home charging unit out of 5.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
Octopus Go – we have battery storage and PV so we can run the house off the 5p per kWh night rate (new rate is 7.5p) so saves us £000’s. My energy direct debit is £50 per month to run a house of 5 and 3 x EVs.

Rate your electricity supplier out of 5.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
Never had issues with Pod Point chargers, Electric Highway are OK but they have some issues caused by the age of some of the chargers but they are being upgraded.

List your top 3 favourite public charging networks (in order of preference).

  • Pod Point
  • Electric Highway.

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
esure – they are the cheapest and understand the Zoe leased battery arrangement.

Rate your insurance provider out of 5.

Estimate how much money you save per month owning and running an EV compared to a petrol/diesel car.
£137.
