Why did you choose this car?
I took the opportunity to switch from my ‘18 VW Golf GTi because it was at an all-time high used value due to semi-conductor shortages and because of wanting to save money for retirement the same month. I managed to negotiate a straight swap into the Zoe, having owned the Golf and now the Zoe outright.
Also, I knew that due to the ban on new sales in 2030, that the Zoe with its range and low comparative price would be a good car to get used to life with an EV, until I upgrade; as the capital risk is far far lower than either my past Golf or a new EV, which start at almost double the price.

- Excellent range for outlay
- Tried and tested design
- Extremely easy to drive
- Excellent sized interior with a good shaped square boot, you can get more in than you’d expect.
Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.
- Regenerative braking could be better
- No height adjustment on the seat.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
No faults whatsoever but only had it around 3 months.
What are the standout tech features of the car?
The Zoe just gets by with the basics and is better for it, especially as a first EV. It has all the features you’d expect and recognise coming from an ICE vehicle and is less confusing and easier to live with as a result.

It’ll out-accelerate to 40mph more ICE than you’d think. Don’t get me wrong, with my cars 135bhp and 0-60 of around 8.5 seconds it’s no Tesla. But because of the instant torque, up to 40mph, I’d say it quicker than my previous GTi.

Tesla Model 3 long range. More choices for charging, longer range and much quicker.

Currently a 3 pin granny but have an installation date in two weeks time for a Hypervolt.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
British Gas variable called The People’s Tariff. Not really as I was previously with People’s Energy before they went bust and now stuck on that because it cheaper than fixing myself into a longer-term or switching suppliers to do the same. Unfortunate situation really. Best of a bad choice.
