PeterH drives a Mustang Mach-E Extended Range AWD 91kWh 2023 electric car, standard spec.
This is PeterH’s second electric car, he’s owned the Mustang Mach-E 1-2 years and drives between 10,000-15,000 miles per year. The current mileage is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 250 miles range from an 80% charge.
Why did you choose the Mustang Mach-E?
First EV had dropped to 100-mile range after 7 years. We needed 230+ and this Mach-E was nearly-new with only 500 miles and with a massive discount. We liked the looks, the comfort and the features.
Positives
- Great to drive
- roomy
- reliable
- plenty of range for our regular long round-trip commute of 230 miles at motorway speeds.
Negatives
- Very little, rear passengers complain about the positioning of the seat belts which I can’t find a way to adjust.
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
Yes
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
No
What are the standout technological features of the car?
One pedal driving is simple, our previous EV didn’t have this feature. I have not tried to join the ‘hands-free’ driving subscription as I don’t like the idea!
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Mustang Mach-E
Goes like stink, if that’s what you like. People ask what it is and when I say it’s a Ford they seem astonished. But that’s a plus for me; we have had a lot of Fords personally and in business and they have largely been long-lived and reliable. We regularly buy ‘posher’ cars e.g. Jags, Mercs and Audis and sadly they have often had snags and niggles. I can’t think of a single troublesome Ford. I know others will argue but that’s just my personal experience.
What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?
They catch fire but the statistics show ICE cars do it much more often.
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
I expect to keep the Mach-E for quite a while as our SUV daily driver (our Nissan LEAF stayed around for 6 years) but if I was forced to switch from Ford, I do like the look of the Porsches. We have a couple of ICE Mercs including a convertible, and I intend to swop one of those for a 2nd EV. If Mercedes did an EV cabriolet that would be VERY interesting to me.
Home charging unit
Can’t recall the make but it came free with the Nissan 8 years ago and we’re still using it for the Mach-E. It’s been trouble-free and it is on an outside wall exposed to the elements.
Do you use public charging networks?
No
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Mustang Mach-E
Fuel, obviously. I pay cash and don’t lease. The road tax is cheaper than our other cars. Servicing is very cheap and never seems to need any new parts. With our Mercs there is always a big parts bill!
