AVFCPhil drives a Renault Megane E-Tech Techno 60kWh 2023 (standard specification).
This is AVFCPhil’s second electric car, he’s owned the Megane E-Tech between 1-2 years and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves a 180-mile range on average, from an 80% charge.
Why did you choose the Renault Megane E-Tech?
Ticked most boxes: looks good, decent range, Google infotainment & physical buttons.
Positives
- Very comfortable, composed car with enough acceleration
- easy to get along with
- enjoyable to drive
- not too big but big enough for most scenarios.
Negatives
- Nothing really.
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
Had the car from 6 months old, no change that I’ve noticed in the 18 months since.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
No issues.
What are the standout technological features of the car?
Multiple driving modes easily accessible from a button but I leave it in Sport! Love the regen paddles nd the Google infotainment system as its so familiar.
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Renault Megane E-Tech
I think the regen paddles, probably. You don’t have to use them but I do a lot rather than braking.
What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?
I hear a lot and it bothers me. Hopefully those spouting rubbish are in an echo chamber and most sensible people will try for themselves. If you buy electric without research it is a steep learning curve but 100% worth it. If you do understand before you buy you won’t be dissatisfied at all.
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
Renault 4 & 5 and the KIA EV3.
Home charging unit
Pod Point – had a few issues but an engineer took out a small seal which he says can affect the handshake and it’s been fine for awhile now. Just set it to overnight tariff hours and it does the rest.
Electricity supplier & tariff
Octopus Go – all good and 5 hours of their cheap overnight rate.
What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
Don’t have to use often, motor fuel group (mfg) are good if you find them, Osprey too. Sainsbury’s rapids are also but not sure who supplies them!
Insurance
Admiral – not been too bad price-wise, similar to my last petrol car.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Renault Megane E-Tech
I barely notice the cost of extra electricity on the monthly bill and it’s great not buying petrol. I only occasionally charge on public network so swallow the odd top-up cost a few times a year.
