Hyundai IONIQ 5 2022 electric car owner review

Hyundai IONIQ 5 2022 electric car owner review

Mark E drives a Hyundai IONIQ 5 Ultimate AWD 73kWh 2022.

This is Mark’s second electric car, he’s owned the Hyundai IONIQ 5 1-2 years and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 250 miles range from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Hyundai IONIQ 5?

I liked the looks, interior quality and appearance, comfort, space and performance. I also read and watched many reviews.

Positives

  • Comfort
  • space
  • ergonomics
  • looks
  • performance.

Negatives

  • Touchscreen is a little too far away
  • no wireless Android Auto
  • too many bongs!

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

  • Boot rattle
  • rear seat belt rattle.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

The HUD with lane follow makes motorway driving very relaxing.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

I can move the car with the key fob to get the bins out and to get out of a tight parking space. Moveable centre console allows driver to slide across and exit through the passenger door!

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That they are only good for short journeys. We go to Cornwall from Cheshire with just one stop.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Volvo EX30, MG4 EV &the KIA EV3.

Home charging unit

EO Mini Pro 2 – very easy to use and cheap at 7.5 or 9p per kWh. No negatives.

Electricity supplier & tariff

Octopus Go (with 4hrs at night at 9p/kWh. Nothing to do with Octopus but we are still being ripped off by energy companies, particularly with standing charges.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Tesla – price & reliability

InstaVolt – reliable but too pricey, same with IONITY.

Insurer

Admiral MultiCar – seem OK but like many others they try to rip you off at renewal.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Hyundai IONIQ 5

Mine is a company car so I save on the tax. Running costs are cheap including servicing and tyres (much less wear than previous ICE cars). I probably save £1,000-£1,200 p/a on fuel.
