Tesla Model Y 2023 electric car owner review

Tesla Model Y 2023 electric car owner review

Ian Wilson drives a Tesla Model Y LR 75kWh 2023.

This is Ian’s fifth electric car, he’s owned the Model Y 1-2 years and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 20,000-30,000 miles and he achieves 270 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose this electric car?

I chose the Tesla because it was designed as an EV. It has superb software and operating system allowing reliable remote access. But the deal breaker was the Supercharger network which works superbly and is very good value for money which is completely different to my previous experiences with remote charging on other networks and devices.

Positives

  • Ease of use
  • ability to control the car remotely
  • the Supercharger network.

Negatives

  • Cruise control tries too hard to be safe
  • auto wipers being random
  • auto main beam being random in operation.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

I’ve not noticed any difference as I don’t have range anxiety due to the Supercharger network.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • The software updates
  • the auto steering capabilities, especially during the day.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The range of changes which are incorporated in the regular software updates allowing your car to be ‘refreshed’ on a regular basis.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That you need to change the batteries every couple of years 🤣

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Tesla Model 2 – which might be more suited to UK roads?

Home charging unit

Pod point Solo – a simple but reliable workhorse.

Electricity supplier & tariff

Intelligent Octopus – very easy to use and Octopus are very easy to deal with too.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Tesla Supercharger network – the best for reliability, cost of use and location.

Insurer

Aviva – were competitive when I first bought the car but auto-renewed whilst on holiday and they pushed the price up so not happy and will shop around this year.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model Y

Energy cost savings are approximately £2,000, zero car tax and zero service costs to-date but better than that, zero emissions!
