UK Car Survey 2024: latest findings

Well, I didn't know that, did you? Part 1

This feature reveals the latest headline findings from all respondents.

These findings are based on submissions from our latest version of our UK Car Survey.

The survey was communicated to Electric Road’s database and social media audiences and these findings are based on submissions received from 30th November 2023 to 24th January 2024. The total submission base was 5,664, achieving a 52% completion rate. We will continue to promote this survey and will publish findings on an ongoing basis.

Owner profile – fuel type

This latest survey is predominantly made up of ICE drivers albeit with a disproportionate representation of electric car owners.

Predominant ‘fuel type’ in 2050

Electric still isn’t seen as the predominant ‘fuel type’ of the future with the belief from 60%+ of respondents that hydrogen or synthetic fuels will be.

Next car – what fuel type?

Presumably, based on the tiny infrastructure for hydrogen, the lack of availability for synthetic fuels and/or their lack of faith in electric cars, 71.3% of the respondents will be buying petrol or diesel cars next. That’s not much of a reduction from the 92.4% who drive a petrol or diesel car currently. Feels like the car manufacturers and the Government still has plenty of work to do…
