At Electric Road, our key objective is to be as useful as we possibly can be for those considering their first/next electric car and related products & services. Domestic charging units are obviously important for those who can charge at home and researching for the right one can be confusing given the increasing number available on the market.
Owner Ratings
Based on the 5-bolt rating system from over 4,000 Top 5 EV Surveys received up to and including 30th June 2023, Electric Road has extracted the top 5 highest-rated home charging units. Within the review forms, all owners have to provide a bolt rating out of 5 on their current unit. We’ve then worked out the average rating for each manufacturer as shown below.
We hope this summary of EV owners’ opinions will help you make the right decision when the time comes to purchase your first or next charging unit. Given how quickly the wider electric vehicle market is growing, the ‘Top 5 Home Charging Units’ will be updated each quarter ensuring you have the latest owner feedback from Electric Road.

1. Easee (4.77)
Easee retains the number 1 position once more with owners particularly loving the design, app & range of features.
Easee is a green-tech company established in 2018. We develop, design and manufacture our products in Scandinavia and currently exports to countries all over Europe. ‘It has a small form factor and fits neatly on our garage wall. It came with a free lifetime SIM subscription that allows remote management of the charger. It also connects to my home Wi-Fi network. The Easee app controls exactly when the car is charged and is simple to use. Lastly, there is an active development community where software enhancements can be raised and ‘bugs’ reported.’

‘Easee One – wanted a non-tethered charge point and I like that I registered a card to allow authorisation and not risk anyone coming along and plugging in. The whole design for e.g. that a second unit can be linked to the first and distribute from the one power connection is a great bonus for potentially having a second electric car in the family.’

‘We have the Easee One charger, it is super easy to use the app. We have a ‘time of use’ tariff and the timer is easy to use too. We have also set up RFID tags so when the hubby’s plug-in hybrid comes, we can work out who has used what energy. This is really easy to view. You can set up the rate you pay for energy and it shows you the cost. It also looks really smart, it’s small and designed in Norway so it can cope with some rough conditions.’

‘Easee One – very reliable. Excellent customer service when I had a query. Small and neat. Currently lacks Octopus Intelligent and Agile support (as with most charge points) but otherwise would totally recommend this unit.’

‘It has really good looks, the cable is not visible when you are not using it. It is fitted with a 8.5m cable so I can park my car in various positions and still be able to reach. ‘The unit is installed on the front of our house about 5m from the pavement so we wanted something that looked nice and was neat and tidy. Also, I wanted a unit that would last and had all the necessary smart features (scheduled charging, load regulation, solar support).
