Tesla Model Y 2023 electric car owner review

Tesla Model Y 2023 electric car owner review

Cliff drives a Tesla Model Y LR 77kWh 2023.

This is Cliff’s first electric car, he’s owned the Model Y from new and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 280 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Tesla Model Y?

  • Loved the car during the test drive
  • had the boot space I needed (other electric cars I’d looked at had nowhere near the space)
  • access to Tesla Supercharger network
  • near supercar performance.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • A superb drive
  • performance is amazing
  • so customisable, the look can be changed with add-ons to make it different from other Model Ys.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Control of airflow from A/C is tricky
  • car front is a bug magnet
  • tourno cover seems a bit of an afterthought.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No faults found.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

There are so many, all of the following are excellent:

  • One pedal driving with the regenerative braking
  • navigation and mapping
  • access to Netflix, Disney etc whilst charging (not that you are ever stopped long enough to watch a full episode of anything)
  • Dog Mode
  • Camping Mode
  • access to Spotify for all your music needs
  • driver profiles
  • the App to view and control the car
  • …there really is so much to love.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

So much space in the car, when I show people the are stunned by how big the car is inside.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Unless a real game changer comes along I’d stick with Tesla as they seem to be the market leader in most things.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

MRCARTOOL charger –  it has been reliable and requires a swipe from a key card to activate, so no worries about having your electricity stolen whilst on holiday etc. Major downside is that there is no app control.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

OVO Simpler Energy Tariff with Charge Anytime add-on for EVs. At approx. 10p per kWh for charging you can get cheaper, however, I’m not limited to a specific early morning period.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Tesla Superchargers

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

Admiral – they offered a good price considering some of the prices I see other Tesla drivers being quoted.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Tesla Model Y

I’ve done a lot of miles since owning the car and have needed to Supercharge a fair amount which isn’t the most cost effective vs home charging. Over the 3,700 miles driven, charging has been 50/50 home vs SC and I’ve saved around £430 over a similar sized ICE vehicle. I would estimate, all in, I’m saving approx £220 per month.
