Nissan LEAF 2018 – Road trip report: Porthcawl to Paignton & back

Nissan LEAF 2018 - Road trip report: Porthcawl to Paignton & back

Paul drove from South Wales to Devon & back in his Nissan LEAF 40kWh 2018.

Introducing your road trip

Trip started in Porthcawl & a full boot with my wife’s mob scooter and 2 cases of clothes! We went to Cardiff to pick up my granddaughter and boyfriend plus clothes, then stopped at Severn Services to top up and have a coffee. After 20 mins we headed to the M5. At Tiverton Services we plugged-in again and had some food (another 20 mins stop) and then headed off to Paignton, Devon. After going off the M5 due to an accident we still had plenty of charge left to visit Tiverton Services and Severn Services on the way home.

Planning & preparation

Zap-Map is ideal as it showed those chargers that were out of service, those that were last used and also alternative places to charge.

Charging

Severn Services have a few chargers now and we had no issues at Tiverton Services either. We were lucky both times as chargers were available when we arrived so we didn’t have to wait.

Did you encounter any great driving roads on your road trip?

Had to get off the M5 before Exeter on the way home to take an alternative route to Tiverton Services and the scenery was beautiful.

The Nissan LEAF

The cruise control was great on the motorway; pilot assist keeps you in the lane and follows the speed of the car in from of you so a really relaxed way to travel.

Road trip conclusion

Overall, it was a great trip even though we were fully loaded. The DAB radio worked well and CarPlay did the job too!
