BMW iX3 - The highest rated electric car, Winter 2022

The BMW iX3 is the highest rated electric car in our latest quarterly awards for Winter 2022.

Within the Top 5 EV Survey, all electric car owners since 1st January 2022 have to provide an overall rating out of 5 electricity bolts on their current car. We’ve then worked out the average rating for each make & model and the BMW iX3 scored an impressive 4.91 out of 5, just ahead of the KIA EV6 at 4.89.

Here are some snippets from some of the BMW iX3 Owner Reviews we have received to-date:

Why did you choose the BMW iX3?

‘Most electric car manufacturers seem to feel the need to create this ‘futuristic’ spaceship-like vehicle. They tend to be full of gimmicks and eye-catching toys to entertain the child in us. They stand out like a representation of what an 80’s movie thought the future would look like. I didn’t want that.

They feel the need to follow the competition (Tesla) into the crazy acceleration battle. Thrusting you and your family into the back of the seat in an instant, just because they can. All this might make sense on performance variants, your AMG or M cars, but for your standard family car or SUV, it just feels unnecessary (and I’ve owned some seriously quick ICE cars so I enjoy that sort of thing).

The BMW iX3 is exactly what I wanted. The wheels don’t fold under as it lifts off to send you into the future, but it is a comfortable, high quality, well-equipped and good looking mid-size SUV. It just happens to have an electric powertrain.’

‘Having compiled a list of available cars and their specifications covering range and equipment levels, I shortlisted a number of cars that were within my price range. Due to a lot of models not being produced at the time of order, I decided to go with a known entity in the X3. I have since driven a number of different EVs and whilst the offerings from Audi, Mercedes-Benz & Volvo are very nice, I still believe that I made the right decision.’

‘Chose this car as wanted a family sized SUV. Was lucky as it was in stock, so no waiting but also a good price & high quality. Feels like a traditional car with a good sized boot. Very high spec and looks great. Range is impressive and overall, a great choice for a family.’

What are the standout tech features of the BMW iX3?

‘Adaptive cruise is very good. Follows car in front nicely and has radar etc. so you see the other traffic around you on the screen. The heads up display is excellent and a really great addition. The electric fold out towbar is really convenient.’

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about the BMW iX3

  • ‘The reverse and parking assistance is very nice and smooth. There is limited information on how to get this to work but we figured if you press the button while just further ahead of the bay you wish to park in it works perfectly.
  • Driver profiles allow quick access when approaching the car. It takes some configuring but works very well if you forget your key.’

‘It has a digital key, you can just use your iPhone for that. The 8 assignable buttons have been in BMWs forever but they work here like a dream.’
