Tony Nisbet drives a Hyundai Kona Electric 64kWh 2022 electric car.

This is Tony’s first electric car, he’s owned the Kona Electric less than 1 year and drives between 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 280 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Hyundai Kona Electric?

Cost, size of car and size of battery; it’s a Motability car too.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

The boot is smaller than I anticipated from a wheelchair perspective, that’s my fault though. I’m struggling for any more tbh.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No

What are the standout tech features of your Hyundai Kona Electric?

It has most things: forward and reverse emergency braking, auto lights, auto wipers, assisted auto steer, auto high beam, one pedal driving (if desired), heated seats, heated steering wheel, good sound system and even the satellite navigation is quite good with integrated fixed speed camera warning.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

It has a utility mode – this means you can sit in the car, not going anywhere, on a blazing hot day and run the aircon and use only a couple of percent of battery…bliss. And you can cool/heat the car for 15 minutes before you get in, so it’s just right!!

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Hopefully the same car!

Do you charge your electric car from home?

No

Do you use public charging networks?

Yes

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

bp pulse subscription – not had a problem whilst travelling but old machines are not the best for reliability. Locally now, many more cars are charging so need to run around a bit for a vacant charger! Genie Point are now doing a cheaper charge between 20:00 & 08:00(?).

Please itemise where you’re saving money owning & running a Hyundai Kona Electric

I don’t generally do a lot of miles per month, so £20 will last. Rarer longer journeys saves about half the cost of diesel and I run the auto heat/ aircon continually.
