KIA Soul EV 2020 electric car owner review

Vyv drives a Kia Soul EV 64kWh 2020 electric car.

This is Vyv’s first electric car, they’ve owned the Soul EV for 2-3 years and drive 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and they achieve 280 miles range from a full charge.

Why did you choose the KIA Soul EV?

Shape, range and ride.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Body style – SUV
  • Acceleration
  • Safety features.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Lack of front proximity sensors.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

The head unit developed lines of incorrect pixels. It was replaced during Covid which took quite a few months and then the new one could not take the software update. It was replaced again and thus far has been fine.

What are the standout technological features of your KIA Soul EV?

The sat nav is the best we’ve ever had with really useful search ability. The connectivity to the MY KIA app is useful for checking status, setting battery charge limits/times and even remote locking unlocking and climate control activation.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

The boot looks small but there is a large compartment under the boot floor.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Nothing in mind.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

This is a ‘dumb’ Rolec model meaning that it doesn’t have any programmability or remote app. I rely on the car settings/app to use off-peak.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

eDF GoElectric Jun ’24. H = 36.72p, L = 15.5173 (both plus VAT). Great benefit is low tariff covers all weekend.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

MFG based on their Cribbs Causeway grid. Don’t use public chargers often.

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

Cornish Mutual Assurance – they have real people and their inspector will call to resolve any requests/issues.

Please itemise where you’re saving money owning & running a KIA Soul EV

Zero road tax. Over the period of ownership, the cost of charging has been less than 20% of the equivalent petrol cost for my Toyota RAV4 hybrid. At current rates it would be around 28% of the petrol equivalent.
