Hyundai IONIQ 2019 electric car owner review

Hyundai IONIQ 2019 electric car owner review

Mike drives a Hyundai IONIQ 38kWh 2019 electric car.

This is Mike’s first electric car, he’s owned the Hyundai IONIQ 1-2 years and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 180 miles range from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Hyundai IONIQ?

Environmental reasons primarily. I had been running hybrids since second generation Prius and felt that the technology and charging infrastructure had made fully electric viable.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

Range for battery size is great but slightly limiting.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None

What are the standout tech features of the car?

Has pretty much all you could want in terms of safety features, adaptive cruise, helpful app for checking charging rates and preconditioning the car in hot weather, never thought I needed auto lights and wipers till I had them!

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

Auto dimming headlights – didn’t think they were a feature of this model.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Fisker Ocean – someone needs to shake up the over pricing on electric cars at the moment and the Ocean sport looks like it might just do that, along with a practical range and size.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

Ohme charger allows full integration with Octopus Go, allowing cheapest possible overnight charging with no hassle. App is simple to use and fairly intuitive.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Generally positive, Octopus Go gives outstanding overnight rates, even now.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Very few are both reliable and value for money. most have used the energy crisis to double prices and yet maintenance appears to be still as bad as it was. Gridserve for me is generally the easiest to use (no app or RFID) I personally really dislike those that require app access and /or RFID – in these days of contactless and mobile phone payment it is anachronistic, and it is unacceptable that there are still networks that have a price differential

Insurer – outline both positive & negative elements

LV – generally positive. Their rates seem very good value, you just have to watch them at renewal and haggle every time.

Itemise how much money you’re saving owning & running your Hyundai IONIQ

Lease was exceptional value (took it out just before huge price hikes in everything) I save £100 per week on fuel, insurance is lowest ever on a car and last main dealer service was £84 – what’s not to like?!
