What’s been your best experience with a UK public charger?
You arrive at the charge point, the 50kW is available and it works. No problem.
What’s been your worst experience with a UK public charger?
Aviemore is a joke for public charging, one station can do 1 car at 50kW and 1 at 22kW which is ridiculous for a major tourist town. When I visited, I did not need any power but there was 1 car plugged in and a motorhome blocking access to the 2nd socket. The Scottish government give the councils money to install public points through ChargePlace Scotland but Highland Council decided to use it elsewhere. I live in a small town in Angus and I have 5 points capable of up to 10 cars within 1 mile and the next town, Forfar, has a hub capable of up to 16 cars all subsidized by the Scottish government.
What’s got to change about public charging in the UK to get more people driving electric cars?
- More dedicated charging hubs for EVs only
- Better uptime and availability
- Easier access to the various charge point suppliers, I believe the situation is worse outside Scotland but I have no experience of this.
