Why did you choose this car?
The very first mass produced all electric car: very original, well over engineered, very well built, in 30000 miles has never given a scrap of trouble. Just four new wiper blades, three new tyres, replaced the original 12 volt battery which was more than 7 years old, had to have a new rear bumper after some clown managed to damage it whilst it was parked in a car park.

I have been electric motoring now for more than 15 years, have always been fascinated by electric vehicles, as a child I would watch these silent little Morrison Electric Vans whizzing about with there click-clack controllers! That would be in the 1940s.

My first electric vehicle was a G-Wiz, an absolutely awful car, only two seats and very limited range. It was like driving a house brick, was glad to see the back of that, sold to a gent in Holland. Then I acquired a French electric car, can’t remember it’s name but totally unreliable! Three Citroen Berlingo Electriques and now my beloved Nissan LEAF.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this car.

  • Totally and utterly reliable
  • very comfortable
  • is becoming a ‘CLASSIC’.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car.

Surprise us! Tell us something surprising about this car?
Well, the first thing that surprised me was the first time I had to floor the accelerator when I got into a situation that I shouldn’t have gotten into in the first place. The acceleration was staggering and no way would I have been able to outrun the situation in an ICE car with its clumsy mechanical gear shifting and clutch work! Even an automatic would not have saved the situation!

And I like the way other LEAF drivers will acknowledge you on the road, like bikers still do today! Like the old days when the AA Man or RAC patrol would salute you as they spotted your membership badge.

What car are you interested in next and why?
I think the Tesla is a world-beater and loaded with technology which I’m afraid would go right over my head and unfortunately way out of my price range. So I will be sticking to my Nissan LEAF until I pass away so to speak. Also there are more and more manufacturers now making EVs and as usual with these things they will become cheaper and cheaper as time goes by.

One thing I am more than grateful for is the end of the stranglehold of ‘BIG OIL’ has had on this planet for far too long. They have repeatedly snapped up all of the Patents for battery technology and suppressed any progress in electric vehicles.

What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
My home charger is the very old and tried technology, THE INFAMOUS 13 AMP SOCKET, nothing fancy and don’t forget these (old fashioned things) can be fitted quite easily outside using the waterproof ones easily available anywhere if you wish.

What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
Couldn’t recommend any of them as since all electricity providers were split up and sold off by Maggie Thatcher’s Government and are now only interested in profit and putting precious little back into the National Grid whilst charging excessive bills.

What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Have only used two in 7 years so can’t comment on this subject!

Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Again, can’t really recommend any of them as every year without fail, I have to go online to find the cheapest insurer, because the present one has put my premium up for no reason and no claims whatsoever for more years than I can remember.
