Why did you choose this car?
Discounted Tesla after a test drive and other people’s experience. I wanted something that was big enough for me and had the range that would mean I have minimal charging away from home. The Ford at the time I ordered fitted the bill and was, in my opinion, a good-looking car!

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this car?
I know this sounds corny but would struggle with three…
- I suppose the fact the voice button on the steering wheel does not operate Android Auto is the only real irritation
- Opening the ‘frunk’ from inside the car is coming so won’t be an issue for much longer
- The Ford App could be better.

If you have the drive mode in untamed you can switch on a sound that sounds like a V8 petrol engine accelerating for those people that miss it!
What home charging unit do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
I have used others but decided to go for the Sync EV smart charger. It is small and unobtrusive so works for me and I use the car cable for connection as it does not have a tethered version. The associated App does the job but is basic. However, there is an updated app coming soon. At £595 after the government grant, it was very much value for money!
What home electricity supplier & tariff do you use? Would you recommend it to others and why?
So far on Octopus Go and tops up the pony for less than £2 per night using the timer on the charger and the cheap rate of electricity. With energy prices the way they are and the volatility that could change but right now it’s generally regarded as the best EV tariff.
What public charging networks do you use? Would you recommend them to others and why?
Ford has preferential rates on BP Pulse and IONITY. IONITY is very good and with the cheap rate in association with Ford is a great option. BP Pulse has its problems and I tend to steer clear of them if I’m honest. Instavolt are really good as are Gridserve and the new generation of chargers they are installing to replace the old Ecotricity ones. I tend to only use CSS fast chargers away from home and you have to be prepared to pay roughly double the price you would charging at home!
Who do you insure your EV with? Would you recommend them to others and why?
NFU Mutual – currently but things will change as more EVs hit the road. Obviously the type of car has an effect but insurance will be changing and the higher value cars will see it first!
Companies will see it in their fleet renewal and house insurance will start asking if you charge cars at your house. The issues will include performance of the cars, the electrical fire risk and the possibility of a minor incident damaging the battery and therefore writing off the car mean that insurers will be very risk-averse regarding EVs.
