Why I Chose the 2025 Honda e:NY1 Advance
This 2025 Honda e:NY1 is actually my second electric car, and the decision to buy one came very naturally because I had owned Honda hybrids previously. Already knowing and trusting the brand’s build quality and ergonomics made stepping into Honda’s pure-electric SUV an easy choice.
Finished in Urban Grey Pearl, my car is the range-topping Advance specification. It comes packed with every feature I could ask for right out of the showroom—including a panoramic glass sunroof, heated seats and steering wheel, a huge 15.1-inch central screen, and all-round parking sensors and cameras—making it a fantastic motor in every way.
Everyday Comfort, Cabin Tech & Driving Impressions
Having already covered between 10,000 and 15,000 miles in my first year of ownership, the standout quality of the e:NY1 is quite simply how comfortable and pleasant it is to spend time in.
The supportive heated synthetic leather seating, light and airy cabin beneath the panoramic glass roof, and smooth 204PS front-wheel-drive electric powertrain make every journey effortless. Whether driving locally or heading out to the coast, it is a genuinely comfortable, refined, and very nice car to live with day in, day out.
Real-World Range, Winter Weather & Reliability After 10,000+ Miles
From an everyday 80% charge, I consistently achieve an average real-world range of about 200 miles. Scaled up to a 100% full charge, that puts real-world capability right around the 245 to 250-mile mark—remarkably close to Honda’s official 256-mile WLTP figure. As you would expect with any electric vehicle in the UK, the range does drop a little during colder winter weather.
In terms of day-to-day reliability across 10,000 to 15,000 miles, I have only experienced one minor hiccup: the 12-volt auxiliary battery went flat one morning. Although we never found out the exact reason why it drained, it was rectified immediately and hasn’t happened again since. Aside from that single 12V blip, I honestly can’t find any faults with the car at all.
The Positives & Negatives: My Honest Verdict
The Positives: What Makes the Honda e:NY1 Great
-
Everything About It: From the styling in Urban Grey Pearl to the way it drives, I love just about everything about the car.
-
Superb Ride & Cabin Comfort: It is a very comfortable, well-equipped car that handles 10,000–15,000 miles a year with ease.
-
Strong Real-World Efficiency: Achieving around 200 miles from an 80% charge means I never even need to use public chargers.
-
Immediate Dealer Support: When the 12V battery went flat once, it was sorted out straight away with zero fuss.
The Negatives: What Could Be Better?
-
Seasonal Cold-Weather Range Drop: Like all EVs, the available range dips when temperatures drop in winter, though I can’t find any actual faults with the vehicle itself.
Home Charging on a 3-Pin Granny Charger, Insurance & Running Costs
My charging routine is proof that you don’t always need a complicated setup or expensive public rapid chargers to run a high-mileage EV:
-
Home Charging Routine: Even though I have a home charging setup available, I am completely happy using the 3-pin granny charger and find it is the most efficient option for my routine.
-
Overnight Off-Peak Tariff: I plug in at home and take advantage of my electricity supplier’s low-cost overnight charging window from midnight until 7:00am.
-
Public Charging Networks: Because topping up overnight at home gives me all the range I need, I do not use public charging networks at all.
-
Insurance & Money Saving: Insuring the e:NY1 has been straightforward—just like insuring any normal car—and combining low-rate midnight-to-7am electricity with zero petrol bills means the car is definitely saving me money every single month.
What’s Next on My EV Radar?
Having moved from Honda hybrids into the e:NY1 and enjoyed over 10,000 trouble-free miles so far, my loyalty to the badge is stronger than ever[cite: 18, 19, 20]. If I were to trade in my keys tomorrow, there is only one thing on my radar: just another Honda!
