Grant drives a Kia EV6 GT-Line S AWD 80kWh.

This is Grant’s first EV and he’s owned the Kia EV6 between 1-2 years. He drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually and the current mileage of the car is between 10,000-15,000 miles. He achieves between 260-330 miles range from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose the Kia EV6?

Because it was the best tow car up to 1,800kg at the time and still remains very competitive.

Positives

  • It’s the best looking EV or them all!
  • drivability, including performance and road handling
  • real switches for all pertinent functions.

Negatives

  • Automatic parallel parking on the left side, on the right side it seems good!
  • it would be nice if the highway autosteer worked when towing
  • V2L is great but it would be nice to have V2G!

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Nothing noticed, yet.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

There was a HDA (Highway Driving Assist) problem but that was fixed by a software upgrade.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • V2L
  • HDA features
  • 3D camera display.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Kia EV6

Brilliant road handling.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Nothing at the moment. It would have to have a longer range and greater efficiency.

Home charging unit

Electricity supplier & tariff

Intelligent Octopus Go

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

IONITY, Fastned, Be.EV or any of the network that does membership for lower rates. I would only use these when touring with a caravan. Although my main means of charging would be from the caravan trickle charging, on-site.

Insurance

AA

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Kia EV6

Yes, definitely on energy running costs compared to a 10-year-old Peugeot 308 diesel, which was very economical. But this was eclipsed by the virtually free running of the EV, which is achieved by maximizing the charging during the day by timing my charging for the whole house.
