Hyundai Kona 2024 – Bakewell to St. Andrews, Simon D

Hyundai Kona 2024 - Bakewell to St. Andrews, Simon D

Simon D drove from Bakewell, Derbyshire to St. Andrews, Fife in his Hyundai Kona 65.4kWh 2024.

Introducing your road trip

We went to look after a 99 year old uncle. The journey too 6 hours and we stopped for lunch in Moffat, Dumfries & Galloway.

Planning & preparation

We used Google Maps to judge where to stop and we stopped around 2 hours into the journey for a comfort break and to charge. The car had completed it’s charge before we even finished our coffee! We used Tebay Services on the way south.

We always plan our charge stops with a backup in range and always keep 50 miles in the tank! We have found Applegreen at Gretna Green very good with lots of charge points. We also have Zapmap, Electroverse, Applegreen and GRIDSERVE apps on our phones.

Charging

We have become much more confident to charge ‘on the fly’ with experience. Charging in Cambridge is a pain as so many of the charge points are designated for taxis only and you can’t tell that from Zapmap.

Did you encounter any great driving roads on your road trip? If so, where were they and why were they great?

Moffat to Edinburgh down the A701 Tweed Valley – fabulous scenery and a quiet road.

The EV worked brilliantly!

Road trip conclusion

We are doing many more miles in our EV than we did in our ICE car, so we visit more people and places!
