Madcam 3899 drives a Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD 75kWh 2025, standard specification.

This is Madcam’s fourth EV and they’ve owned the Model Y between 1-2 years. Madcam drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually and the current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles. They achieve 270 miles range from an 80% charge.

Why did you choose this car?

Personally, I think Tesla offer the best all round package from comfort to range, ease to driving and OTA updates mean the car gets even better. Also has an amazing infotainment system that works seamlessly.

Positives 

Everything about the driving experience, the acceleration, the comfort, the infotainment system and on a long journey your car can work out your route, so if you need to charge it, it will take you to the nearest Supercharger.

Negatives

I cannot fault my car, it’s fantastic!

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

It’s as good as when I purchased it.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None at all.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Voice controls are great with Grok; the sound system and technology are fantastic.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Model Y

The car will change gear from forward to reverse without any input from the driver.

Electricity supplier & tariff 

Octopus Energy – have recently switched as they offer six hours of overnight charging for 8p per kWh. It’s really good to use off-peak charging.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

I have occasionally used chargers at GRIDSERVE forecourts and generally they all work but can be expensive, depending on what you use. I would only tend to use public charging on a road trip and would always use the Tesla Supercharger network. I would avoid motorway service chargers as they are poorly maintained and often not working.

AA – I found them to be as competitive on pricing as anyone and they had everything covered in the policy I wanted.

When I can fill my EV up for under £10 and drive 300+ miles, I think it goes without saying that compared to petrol or diesel, the fuel savings alone are immense. Also the service cost of an EV is dramatically lower than an ICE vehicle.
