Mark drives a KIA EV6 GT-Line 77.4kWh 2023.
This is Mark’s second electric car, he’s owned the EV6 2-3 years and drives between 20,000-30,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 50,000-60,000 miles and he achieves 185 miles range from an 80% charge.
Why did you choose the Kia EV6 GT-Line?
Having had an I-PACE, I wanted something as well-built, but with a better range and offering similar power output.
Positives
- Comfort
- build quality
- range
- speed of charge to 80%
- reliability
- running costs
- I love the look – squat & wide with excellent road-holding.
Negatives
Paint finish isn’t as good as the Jaguar I-PACE, but the cost difference maybe why. The blue shows up all the chips on the front. I am not a fan of the touch-up pen/pad, either. Maybe that’s just my inability to use it effectively.
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
Yes, to both questions, I have driven 50k miles in just over 2 years. The garage ordered the wrong car, the original owner wanted GT Line S with a panoramic roof, unfortunately, the ‘S’ was missed off the order form. The original owner kept it for 8 months and then we were the beneficiaries!
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
The only issue was a recall, which wasn’t dealt with well by Kia ,in my opinion. Also had a dead 12v battery, but beyond this, it’s been perfect.
What are the standout technological features of the car?
Apps not bad, to be honest, the whole car stands out for me!
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your Kia EV6 GT-Line
The car can act as a 110V power source. An internal port in the rear seat footwell with an external adapter allow you to power devices like laptops, electric bikes, camping equipment, or even another electric vehicle.
What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?
If you drive an EV through a car wash or a deep puddle, you will be instantly frazzled, like dropping a hair dryer in the bath!!!
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
Another Kia or VW ID.7
Home charging unit
myenergi zappi – my 70-mile round trip each day into London, costs me around £2.40.
Electricity supplier & tariff
Intelligent Octopus Go
What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
My go to is InstaVolt, so reliable. The cost of public charging is hideous, it’s 7p per kWh at home and 10 times more expensive on the open road. It’s cheaper if I charge the cost to my Octopus account.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Kia EV6 GT-Line
Yes, daily commute is way cheaper, visiting relatives balances this out with the additional cost of journeys to Yorkshire and Wales (from Sussex) but still cheaper over all.
