Dan T drives a CUPRA Born V1 58kWh 2023.
This is Dan’s first electric car, he’s owned the CUPRA Born 1-2 years and drives 20,000-30,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 30,000-40,000 miles and he achieves 230 miles from a full charge.
Why did you choose the CUPRA Born?
Limited choice for company car and it looked nicer than the VW alternative.
Positives
- Fast
- very cheap to run with intelligent charging
- cheap BIK tax
- nice to drive
- reduced carbon footprint
- looks cool.
Negatives
- Infotainment annoying and laggy
- tyres don’t seem to last long.
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
Haven’t noticed any difference.
Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
None
What are the standout technological features of the car?
Intelligent charging integration is really cool.
Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about your CUPRA Born
Being able to pre-heat on a frosty morning so I get in a defrosted, toasty car with a nice warm steering wheel!
What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?
Colleagues thought that if I left it parked at the airport for a week or two then the battery would drain itself. In reality, I’ve never even seen it lose 1%!
What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
Polestar 2 – seems like a comfortable, well-designed car.
Home charging unit
Project EV charger – cheap, convenient & no negatives. I have the car integrated with Intelligent Octopus Go so I don’t use any of the features in the charger. It has never had a problem albeit I had to upgrade the firmware to work with IOG which Project EV did remotely and without issue.
Electricity supplier & tariff
Intelligent Octopus Go – cheap (7p) charging for the whole house for 6 hours/overnight plus intelligent charging slots. Real-time consumption data on the app via Octopus Home Mini. Occasional glitches with services that are in beta but these are improving all the time.
What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
Electroverse – convenient using RFID card and charges go onto your electricity bill.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a CUPRA Born
Tax & fuel, both waaaaay cheaper!
