Barrie Stephenson shares his experience of public charging with his Honda e:Ny1 68kWh 2024.
What do you think of the UK public charging network in general?
There are just about enough rapid chargers but most are too expensive. Some, like bp and Shell, are unreliable and others are excellent like IONITY and GRIDSERVE.
What and where are your favourite UK public chargers?
IONITY at The Village in Coventry. There are plenty of chargers and the nearby facilities are a pleasure to use – clean and with lots of facilities.
What’s been your worst experience with a UK public charger?
Tesco, Princes Road, Chelmsford. The single Pod Point rapid charger has been out of action for at least 3 months. It’s inconvenient as it is next to one of my frequent destinations.
What’s got to change about public charging in the UK to get more people driving electric cars?
More ultra rapid chargers at each location. Queues need to be kept down to no more than a 5 minute wait. Also, some rural areas have to be well-served e.g. The Lake District.
