FIAT 500e 2022 electric car owner review

Lois drives a FIAT 500e La Prima 42kWh 2022.

This is Lois’s second electric car, she’s owned the FIAT 500 1-2 years and drives under 5,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 5,000-10,000 miles and she achieves 165 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the FIAT 500e?

Because I adore the look of the Fiat 500! Also, the bonus of it being electric means I effectively get the speed of an Abarth version wrapped up in a cute environmentally-friendly package that can be charged from my solar panels!

Positives

  • Easy to park
  • it’s rose gold
  • it’s a Fiat 500 ❤️!!
  • quiet
  • cheap if not free to power/charge
  • quick/fast acceleration
  • it’s cute
  • environmentally-friendly
  • there’s no smell unlike with petrol cars
  • dog fits on back seat.

Negatives

  • No back door (Europe has one rear opening door)
  • sunroof doesn’t open – it would be a nice addition/option
  • poor lumbar support & poor adjustment of front seats
  • no heated seats in La Prima models of this year.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yes

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

N/A

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Connects to phone easily
  • wireless Apple CarPlay
  • charges my phone without wires
  • rapid charging but rarely used it (only needed to use twice in over a year!)
  • pre-heats cabin from phone app!
  • can lock/unlock from phone app!
  • audible warning of speed cameras.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about the FIAT 500e

  • Surprisingly good boot space for a small car – it can fit a weekly shop for two in the boot!
  • door handles have engraving telling you where it was made ❤️ mine says Torino
  • larger than petrol version
  • so much fun to drive that I no longer like driving a petrol car as it seems slow and boring by comparison!

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That it’ll burst into flames.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Possibly a convertible FIAT 500e to have the option of the roof down in summer. Also, possibly the KIA EV3 but only if they start making a 4-wheel drive version! Our main car, a KIA EV6, has it which makes long drives in bad weather feel safer but it’s very large to park and navigate on small country roads.

Home charging unit

Easee One – no issues & seems very reliable.

Electricity supplier & tariff

Octopus Go – we were on Agile until recently. Neither of the cars or the charger are compatible with Intelligent Go unfortunately. We have solar and battery storage so we’d be better off on Intelligent Octopus Go, apparently but we’ll be switching back to Agile in a few months.

Do you use public charging networks?

I’ve only used public chargers twice.

Insurer

AXA – we have a multi-car policy as my husband is in the trade.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a FIAT 500e

We run two EVs and the house all year at a net profit. Octopus pay us a small amount over the year thanks to solar export.
