Jaguar F-Pace 2022 plug-in hybrid car owner review

Richard drives a Jaguar F-PACE Plug-In Hybrid 18kWh 2022.

This is Richard’s first plug-in hybrid car, he’s owned the Jaguar F-PACE from new and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 30 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Jaguar F-Pace?

I can visit my son using all electric, get to London on PHEV at 100mpg and then it’s a 400bhp mild hybrid returning 35mpg if the chargers are all full.

Positives

  • It’s as fast as a V8
  • it’s as economical as a Zoe which is where the battery comes from
  • it’s £15 to tax when new
  • it does 0-60 in 4.6 secs
  • it can tow a 2T caravan.

Negatives

  • The boot space is smaller than it should be for a car of its size
  • tyres cost £400 each.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Yep, still get max range and charge it to max. every time.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Not one in two years.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • It will stick in lane
  • with adaptive cruise control will follow the car in front and move forward from stationary in slow traffic on its own
  • it will wade 800mm as standard too.

Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

It has a retractable tow bar and a reversing feature that allows the car to be reversed under a tow bar before deploying the tow bar and will self hitch onto the caravan.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

That the batteries don’t like being fully charged.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Jaguar – I love the icon and the great build quality.

Home charging unit

It’s a Jaguar-own charger that they provided with the car.

Electricity supplier & tariff

Octopus Energy –  7.5p per kWh to charge the car regardless of the time taken and house energy 23:30 to 05:30 at 7.5p.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

InstaVolt – they always works and you can just tap your Apple watch.

Insurer

Admiral – price went up 35% to £850 this year.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Jaguar F-PACE plug-in hybrid

£100 saving a month on fuel and £150 a month from the electric tariff on the house.
