KIA Niro EV 2022 owner review

KIA Niro EV 2022 owner review

Rob drives a KIA Niro EV 3 64kWh 2022.

This is Rob’s first electric car, he’s owned the KIA Niro EV from new and drives 30,000-40,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 40,000-50,000 miles and he achieves 230 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the KIA Niro EV?

Reliability, efficiency, interior & space. I was looking at a KIA EV6 but once I sat in the new Niro I didn’t see the point. Compared to a Tesla, it’s so much easier to use because it has buttons for all the essentials. Plus, it doesn’t look like a fish.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Comfort
  • refinement
  • off the lights and overtaking acceleration
  • it’s a KIA so it just works
  • A colleague has an Audi e-tron, nothing but trouble and the range has now halved. The Niro is exactly the same after 45,000 miles. The range I get is lower than it could be because I do a lot of motorways and sit at 75.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

Not really negatives, moreso improvements but the range could be higher, road noise less and stereo better.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

No difference.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

No faults.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Intelligent cruise literally drives the car and makes long journeys so relaxing
  • instant acceleration makes overtaking so safe and fun
  • I love i-Pedal in traffic, it takes the hassle out of driving in London
  • the sat nav is the best I’ve had in any car including premium brands, no need for Waze.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

Under floor storage in the boot and the ability to plug-in a 3-pin plug.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

Not enough chargers – there are loads and combined with reliable range info there is zero range anxiety.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

Probably another Niro but I’d love it if a sportier version were available. The KIA EV6 appeals but is a bit big on the road.
