Jon Kerr drives a Jaguar I-PACE 90kWh 2020.
This is Jon’s first electric car, he’s owned the Jaguar I-PACE 3-4 years and drives 10,000-15,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 40,000-50,000 miles and he achieves 200 miles from a full charge.
Why did you choose the Jaguar I-PACE?
I had test driven the Audi e-tron as well as the Jag and had been impressed with the crisper handling of the I-Pace as well as the fact that it didn’t look like a normal car. The spec I went with added air suspension, a panoramic roof, heated seats (front & rear), folding mirrors with Jaguar logo projector image, gesture tailgate & a Meridian media system.

The cabin was beautifully laid out and the quality of the materials was excellent. Even over the potholed roads in Saddleworth the ride is spot on and when driving it in Dynamic mode the smiles per miles increases! I decided to extend my lease for a 4th year as it’s a company car & the existing list is comprehensive with Tesla, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Polestar, Volvo, KIA & Hyundai etc though nothing seems massively better for the money.
Positives
- It looks fabulous
- it handles like a dream
- it goes like stink!
Negatives
- The rear view is quite limited
- there should be a rear wiper for the rear screen
- the range could be better in the cold.
Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?
It appears to charge as it did when I first got it though I mainly use my home charging point anyway.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?
I’ve had the lower door trim de-laminated under warranty. I’m currently waiting for the local Jaguar dealership to let me know when the rear struts for the tailgate have come into the workshop as it opens fully then drops down approximately 6 inches.
What are the standout technological features of the car?
I love the one pedal driving when regenerative braking is set to high as well as the grip from the 4-wheel drive on the B-roads near me.
Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car
I’ve had the air suspension fitted as an extra & I love the way it lowers itself when I exit the car to the access height. I’ve also found it useful for the off-road height on the rural roads & farms.
What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?
That they catch fire – yet all the data shows that petrol & diesel cars have a significantly greater risk of fire.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?
I’ve been waiting for the Audi A6 e-tron saloon which is due out this year or maybe the Polestar 4. They both look sexy in the images I’ve seen online with reasonable range/speed & specification (as I love a panoramic sunroof!).
Home charging unit
New Motion Home Advanced – it does the job well. I can set it to charge at specific times to enable me to make full usage of the Octopus Go overnight (cheap) tariff.
Electricity supplier & tariff
Octopus Go tariff – fairly good though I only get a 4-hour window of cheaper electricity which is now 9p and had been 5p. The normal rate is 30p with an offensive standing charge of 49.7p, horrendous!

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?
InstaVolt seem to be fairly reliable but on the whole I’ve not been impressed with the number of working charging points across the UK. Too many are broken or the time spent on the phone with the customer service teams to attempt to reset the units to get them to charge. I’m sure it puts a lot of people off.
Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a Jaguar I-PACE
From a company car perspective I am making a huge saving in ‘benefit in kind’ tax over my previous BMW 430d xDrive coupe.
