Polestar 2 test drive review 2024

Anthony Hibbs took a test drive of the Polestar 2 Long Range RWD.

Anthony was contacted by Polestar Manchester (Trafford Centre) within 1 hour of making his initial enquiry and took his test drive on 15th January 2024.

Please provide an OVERALL RATING for the electric car

Rate the electric car on its exterior

What did you like/dislike like about the exterior?

I like the car’s design, build quality is excellent with good quality materials and tight panel gaps. The badging is very discreet. The daytime running lights give the front view its character. Wheels look oversized for the vehicle but I quite like this. Absolutely nothing to dislike.

Rate the electric car on its interior

What did you like/dislike like about the interior?

The interior screams QUALITY! So many different textures, minimal plastic and where it exists it is good quality. Lots of detail in the seats, which almost hug you and are very comfortable. The driver’s seat is electrically adjustable with memory, no more faffing about if the car has two drivers.

The roof lining was dark but my test car had a panoramic glass roof which compensated for this and would be a must if I were to purchase a Polestar 2. The test car had the Plus pack which included this roof and the excellent Harman Kardon sound system.

The two negatives I found were the rear visibility which is very restricted and storage. The glove box, door pockets front and rear are small. There is no centre armrest storage just two cup holders. A niche in the passenger side of the console is the only other storage. On the whole though, I liked the interior very much and could accept minor compromises.

Rate the electric car for its tech features

What did you like/dislike about the tech features?

The car had the usual features but the stand out was the integrated Google Assistant which was faultless. Understood and executed every command from climate to navigation. I confess to being pleasantly surprised. Another surprise to me anyway was the USB-C ports. All new cables or adapters required for my Apple devices.

Something I found extremely odd was the 360 degree camera. Not so good for reversing out of tight spots with poor visibility, compounded by the restricted rear window view but amazing when parallel or parking in a car park. I went to a car park which had a type of mesh roadway and round dots marking the spaces. They were crystal clear in the 360 view. Totally amazing!

The now ubiquitous tablet in the centre controlled many functions. Something for me to get used to, I guess. There are buttons for demisting which I found odd but soon realised why they were so accessible as the rear window misted up a few times on my 2°C test drive. On the whole, the tech seems practical and I could soon get used to it.

Rate the electric car for how it drives

What did you like/dislike like about how it drove?

Apart from the previously mentioned poor visibility and a little road noise, which could be due to the 20” wheels on my test car, the Polestar 2 was hard to fault. Good feel to the steering, a ‘not too soft but not too hard’ ride, smooth acceleration and regen braking. Comfortable. Best of all no squeaks, rattles or wind noise. I enjoyed my 38 miles of mixed driving with no dramas.
