Provide your overall rating for the charging unit

Which company installed it and would you recommend them?

Pod Point Ltd – yes, I would recommend them.

How much did you pay for your unit and installation?

£1,088

Why did you purchase this particular unit?

There was a KIA dealership discount of £40 and I liked the look of the Pod Point Solo 3. Also, I wanted to have the unit installed in the garage with the flexibility of a untethered charging cable. This would also protect the unit from the weather and make it futureproof.

None

Tell us about your home charging routine

I’m retired, so my annual mileage is probably no more than 7,000 miles. The car is charged up to 4 times a month, sometimes less. With OVO Charge Anytime (supported through the car, not the Pod Point) I simply set the time at which I want the car charged (say, 9am) and just plug it in any time of day to charge at 7p/kWh with no hike in the day rate.

If you were buying a new charging unit now, what would you buy and why?

I really like the Pod Point, especially as it connects to my home wi-fi, but if I had to swap then the Ohme ePod looks good. It’s also supported by OVO Energy. The only downside is that there’s no wi-fi connection and it relies on a good mobile phone signal. There’s also an unknown charge for the SIM card after 3 years.

Tell us about your electricity provider and tariff. Would you recommend them?

OVO Charge Anytime – charge any time for 7p/kWh with no hike in the day rate. It’s EV-specific, so no off-peak for other appliances but you can get a discount from OVO for offsetting your energy needs via their Power Move challenge.

Are you part of a charger-sharing scheme for those who don’t have their own charger?

No.
