FIAT 500 2022 electric car owner review

FIAT 500 2022 electric car owner review

Geoff drives a FIAT 500 Electric 42kWh 2022.

This is Geoff’s first electric car, he’s owned the FIAT 500 1-2 years and drives 5,000-10,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 10,000-20,000 miles and he achieves 140 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the FIAT 500 Electric?

Easy access as a disabled driver and quick availability on Motability scheme.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Good for short journeys round town
  • ease of use having only one gear
  • you can drive it virtually entirely on one pedal.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Bad for distance
  • expensive to charge on rapid charge network (actually costs more than a petrol or diesel car in this respect
  • it’s also very small, OK for one or two people but that’s it, the back seats are for decoration.

Compared to when you first bought the car, does your battery still charge at the same rate & do you still get the same range?

Range shown on display has dropped by 2 miles after 10,000 miles but still charges at the same rate.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

Have to reset the infotainment system regularly, it loses satnav on low charge and won’t pick back up but easy to reset.

What are the standout technological features of the car?

Nothing really outstanding, all pretty much standard as you would expect in a new car.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

It feels surprisingly large in the front for a small car and the floor is flat with no noticeable sill to step over getting in.

What’s the biggest or funniest myth you’ve heard about EVs?

They’re cheaper to run, that’s only true if you charge at home on 7kW charger.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

I’m not, they’re not suitable for long distances yet due to insufficient and expensive infrastructure.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

bp pulse – home chargers are cheaper than any other form of car fuel and I’ve had no problems with it.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Don’t have any positive or negative comments, I’m with Octopus and they do seem to be the preferred supplier with most owners I’ve spoken to.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

I wouldn’t recommend any public charging networks as they are all more expensive than fossil fuels.

Please itemise where you’re saving money (or not) owning & running a FIAT 500 Electric

I save a little by charging at home but lose most of that saving when I have to use public charging networks.
