Mustang Mach-E 2022 electric car owner review

Ford Mustang Mach-E 2022 electric car owner review

Craig Hann drives a Mustang Mach-E 70kWh 2022.

This is Craig’s first electric car, he’s owned the Mustang Mach-E from new and drives under 5,000 miles annually. The current mileage of the car is between 1,000-5,000 miles and he achieves 200 miles from a full charge.

Why did you choose the Mustang Mach-E?

  • Brand reputation
  • build quality
  • style
  • good balance of new tech and traditional switch gear.

Positives – List 3 or more reasons why you love this electric car

  • Interior quality
  • drive and handling
  • looks.

Negatives – List 3 or more things that you really don’t like about this electric car

  • Range is far less than advertised
  • software is not to the standard of other EV brands, lots of quality of life issues that Fords software team do not seem to take seriously or be able to fix effectively without introducing new issues.

Have you experienced any faults with the car? If so, what have they been?

None so far

What are the standout technological features of the car?

  • Park assist
  • adaptive cruise control
  • one pedal driving.

Surprise us! Tell us something people wouldn’t readily know about this electric car

  • Boot space is really decent
  • panoramic sunroof is great
  • drive and handling are really good.

What electric car(s) are you interested in next and why?

None. I just want Ford to get the software experience right. Range can’t be fixed but the quality and experience of using the car day-to-day is easily improved with more focus testing, listening to the users and ensuring features are equivalent between the UK and the far better features and more frequent updates they get in the USA. It seems like Ford don’t care to communicate with the UK owners.

Home charging unit – outline both positive & negative elements

myenergi zappi charger – it works well but to be honest I would have been just as satisfied with a ‘dumb’ one as the vehicle has charging schedules in its software and the value of the smart charging features in the charger are negated by a poor value proposition of any EV electricity tariffs unless you do hundreds of miles a week.

Electricity supplier & tariff – outline both positive & negative elements

Unless you do hundreds of miles a week, EV-specific tariffs aren’t worth it due to the higher daily rate per kilowatt.

What public charging networks would you recommend to others and why?

Pod Point and InstaVolt are fine. My first experience of public charging with bp pulse was terrible and it made me wonder if getting an EV was a huge mistake. There’s just not enough chargers, I’m glad I’m not a high mileage driver as I’m sure I’d hit issues.

Please itemise where you’re saving money owning & running an electric car

Probably not saving anything in running costs at the moment with the way energy prices are.
